Installation Instructions

Swimming Pool Waterfalls

Read all of the instructions on this page prior to installation. With the product on its side, begin installing flexible spa hose (PVC piping) and adapters using PVC primer, PVC adhesive, and a rubber coupler with 2 hose clamps. Most waterfalls have a 1 1/2" female slip fit fitting pre-installed. Larger units like the Cheyenne, Century, and Grottos have a 2". If you install flex hose like pictured here (with the 90 degree bends seen below) it will be easy to position the connection onto the pipe that it stubbed up through the deck. A valve will allow for flow adjustments. Test the flow prior to securing to the deck. You can also install a valve near the pump.

Lower the waterfall over the stubbed-up pipe. A helper can lift the waterfall for easy access, but an individual can merely reach under most of our lightweight waterfalls to tighten the PVC piping to the pipe.

Peeking underneath the waterfall, this is what it looks like as a rubber adapter is tightened onto the water supply pipe.

Test the unit's flow and adjust the valve prior to securing it to the deck.

Any of our products can be secured to a pool's decking. Some are specifically designed with flanges along the bottom to bolt through. Pictured below is a LR-2 boulder which has no flanges. Simply drill through opposing sides near the bottom in a place where there is a lower area (making it easier to tighten down the Tapcon screw). Use an appropriate size drill bit for your Tapcon screws or other concrete screws.

Tighten the Tapcon screw (usually 2 - 2 1/2" works well) using a ratchet wrench. Don't over-tighten, just snug it down a bit. Blow away any dust from drilling the hole into the deck. You'll need to use approximately 1 drill bit per 3 holes due to bit wear.

Apply weatherstripping putty to the screw head. Blend into the surface of the rock.

Apply a small amount of stain to the putty to make the screw head visually disappear. If you ever need to move the rock, find the soft putty, remove it and the screws to re-install the rock in another location.

After securing your rocks to the pool's decking, you're ready to turn it on and enjoy it! The installation in these photos took about an hour... that's all!

If you don't have a pipe stubbed up through the deck, you can cut a 'mouse hole' in the back side of the water fall and run the hose over to your pool equipment to access water. Hide the hose with dirt, rocks or grass. High flow units like the Grottos, Cheyenne and Century need a dedicated pump (3/4 hp) in order to flow correctly. If you have a pool with a 3 hp pump, you may be able to run those from it as long as you divert all the water to the water feature.

Do not use PoolRock.com water features as diving platforms. Although human weight will not harm our products, they are not designed to be used as diving platforms, or diving boards. Diving platforms are specifically designed to be used in conjuntion with swimming pools that are designed for their specific use.

For installations that can take advantage of existing pool pumps, your installer may run the water line to the waterfall and attach to the 1 1/2 inch fixture.  Adjust the waterflow to the number of gallons per minute as best fits your waterfall model. Anchor the waterfall to the deck using the flanges built into the waterfall on the sides and back. Do not over tighten the bolts. Hide bolt heads with weatherstripping putty and paint to match the unit.

It's almost too easy!

Bigger waterfalls like the Cheyenne, both grottos, and the Catalina require dedicated pumps. High-efficiency 3/4 hp pumps will make these units flow well. make sure to follow all local and/or national codes for electrical and plumbing installations. We recommend that licensed, professional pool builders or contractors perform any type of water feature installations.

Be sure that noone performs an installation that may introduce a dangerous suction into your swimming area. Use anti-suction devices/techniques commonly used and promoted by the swimming pool industry.
